This page explains how to automate inventory transfers in Acumatica to maintain accurate stock levels across multiple locations when inventory adjustments are made.

(a) Challenges

  • In Acumatica, inventory adjustments do not automatically create corresponding inventory transfer transactions.
  • This is problematic in multilocation setups, where inventory is tracked separately at each location.
  • When an inventory adjustment is made at one location, the inventory levels at other warehouses become inaccurate without a corresponding transfer.
  • For example, if two units are added to the inventory in warehouse A via an inventory adjustment, and these two units also need to be moved to warehouse B, a separate transfer transaction needs to be manually created.
  • Without this corresponding transfer, the system does not accurately reflect the movement of goods, which creates inaccurate inventory counts across different warehouses.

(b) Solution and Benefits

  • The solution involves automating the creation of an inventory transfer transaction whenever an inventory adjustment is performed using Acumaticas built-in tools.
  • The automated process uses the following:
    • Generic Inquiry (GI): A GI is created to fetch all released inventory adjustment transactions, extracting key data such as reference number, status, date, inventory ID, warehouse location, project task, cost, and quantity.
    • Business Event: A business event is set up to monitor and trigger actions based on the data from the GI.
    • Import Scenario: The business event is mapped to an import scenario, which uses data from the GI to automatically create a corresponding inventory transfer transaction.
  • This entire process happens in fractions of a second, ensuring that every time an inventory adjustment is made, a corresponding transfer transaction is automatically created with the same data in the system.
  • This ensures that inventory levels are accurate in both locations involved.

Benefits of this solution:

  • Ensures Accurate Inventory Levels: Automating the transfer process ensures that inventory is accurately tracked across multiple locations.
  • Saves Time and Reduces Errors: Automatic transfer transaction reduces the need for manual transfer, thus saving time and preventing errors.
  • Streamlines Operations: Automation streamlines inventory management, making it easier to reconcile inventory across different locations.

Tools and Modules Impacted

  • Inventory Module: This is where the initial adjustment is made, and the transfer transaction is also created.
  • Project Module: The project module is also impacted since the project task is also captured.
  • Generic Inquiry (GI): Used to fetch data related to inventory adjustment.
  • Business Events: Used to trigger the automated transfer process.
  • Import Scenarios: Used to create the transfer transaction with the data collected by the GI.
